Shimla: The Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Rashtrapati Nivas, Shimla, organized an Online Hindi Workshop today with the objective of strengthening the practical and effective use of Hindi in official work. The workshop was held in the Seminar Room of the Institute and witnessed participation from officers and staff members.

The training session was delivered online by Mr. Ajay Kumar Jha, Deputy Director (Official Language), Ministry of Education, Government of India. In his lecture, Mr. Jha emphasized the importance of using Hindi in original noting, drafting, and official correspondence, stating that effective use of Hindi enhances administrative clarity and efficiency in addition to fulfilling official language policy requirements.

He also highlighted the need for simple and reader-friendly translations, judicious use of technical terminology, and narrowing the gap between official Hindi and commonly used Hindi. Responding to participants’ queries, he provided practical examples to address common challenges faced in day-to-day official Hindi usage.

It was observed during the workshop that such training programmes play a significant role in promoting awareness and strengthening compliance with official language policies within the Institute.

The programme was moderated by Dr. Akhilesh Pathak, Secretary (Official Language) & Public Relations Officer. Participants found the workshop highly useful and practical, and expressed the need for organizing similar capacity-building programmes in the future.
