Shyam Lal College organizes the Eighth Edition of University Chef 2025

Shyam Lal College (M), University of Day is organizing its eighth edition of the University Chef competition. The two-day event being organized on 20th and 21st March 2025 is Delhi University’s only skill based culinary competition. The Inaugural event saw the presence of the Principal and Patron of the college, Prof. Rabi Narayan Kar, Chef Veeta Singh, DGM, Hotel The Ashok and Chef Amit Gothwal, Executive Chef, Rashtrapati Bhavan organizing members of the event, faculty and administrative staff of the college. In his inaugural speech, Prof. Rabi Narayan Kar, encouraged the participants with his stimulating speech and emphasized the importance of a Healthy and Fit India by highlighting the importance of Millets.

More than 17 teams from various colleges and universities like Ramjas College, Dronacharya College, Shyam Lal College, Jamia Millia Islamia, Vedatya Institute, Dyal Singh College (E), Ashok Institute participated in the competition. All the participants were felicitated with aprons and caps by Prof. Kar and Chef Singh. The first round saw Street Food challenge where participating teams had to make Indian street food. Pav Bhaji, Dahi ke Shole, Momos, Bread Roll with Green Chutney, Paneer Tikka Wrap were some of the dishes that were prepared by the participants.

The college provided a fully equipped pantry and working utensils for the participants, along with multiple food preparation counters. Chef Veeta Singh, one of the jury members, stated that everyone should engage in good cooking. Ex-officio of the event, Dr. Abbas Tapadar mentioned that this competition was an initiative to promote cooking skills within Delhi University and promote the idea of Skill India. ‘Flavours of the Hills’, a food stall was also set up by the Northeast students of Shyam Lal College offering a rich and tasteful flavours of Northeast India. The other esteemed jury members of the competition are Chef Amit Gothwal, Executive Chef, Rashtrapati Bhavan, Chef Mukesh Kumar, Executive Sous Chef, Hotel The Ashok and Chef Veeta Singh, DGM, Hotel The Ashok.

The Day 1 event concluded smoothly with jury members tasting different flavors of Indian street food. In the end, the jury members and the UC committee thanked the young participants and encouraged them for Day 2 of the competition.
