Legislator Gonzalez of the 9th Legislative District presented the honor to Basnet during a special ceremony held in New York. The citation in the proclamation mentions that Basnet has played a significant role in expanding journalism skills and expertise within the Nepali and Hindu diaspora through the media industry for a long time.
While presenting the honor, Legislator Gonzalez stated, “Mr. Basnet has played a catalytic role in establishing the importance of truth and facts in journalism, bringing marginalized Nepali voices to the mainstream and sharing their stories with the world. His work has provided great inspiration for the new generation to enter the fields of journalism and communication.”

Basnet has been serving as the General Manager of Nepal’s prestigious and largest media house, ‘Annapurna Media Network’ (AMN), since July 2024. He leads the managerial operations of Annapurna Post (Nepali National Daily), The Annapurna Express (English Daily), AnnapurnaPost.com, Radio Annapurna, and AP1 Television.
With over 18 years of experience in the communication sector, Basnet has expertise in news gathering, sales, distribution, market management, and corporate strategy. Suffolk County congratulated him on his dedication and contributions, commending his excellent service and sense of social responsibility.
Nawaraj KC, Chairman of the US-based Triveni Times, remarked that the honor bestowed upon the Nepali media professional strengthens the ties between the Nepali diaspora and the local government, while also signifying the rising international prestige of Nepali journalism.
